Anju van Wersch

Beyond the surface. That is how I would typify my work. My aim is to go past pure likeness and bring out the personality as shown by character and attitude. The portrayed person should communicate directly with the viewer without being hindered by distracting elements.

Born and raised in India I completed art school in Pune. I now live and work in The Netherlands with my Dutch partner. Initially my field of interest was urban environment and nature. Today  my focus is mainly on portraits.

I paint portraits as both commissioned and autonomous work. It is included in portrait galleries of universities and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg as well as in private collections in The Netherlands, India, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark and the US.
